I thought the book was overall, good. It was actually, unexpectantly, very interesting. Showing how the young girl copes with her life altering adjustment, cancer. I do think this book should win an award for many reasons. One example is, while i read the book, the whole time you felt you were there, like you were her, or her dad or brother, suffering their pain. The details were real sentimental, how she falls in love, but the boy in the end she has to leave and you cant imagine how he would cope either dealing with that type of loss. Some of the stuff she does, a the beginning are unexpected. She wants to have sex and do drugs, ad its weird how she wants to sudenly do all these things. But its very understandable, she wants to reinact a fully experienced life because she knows she will never have one. This first review, http://www.amazon.com/review/RMVA4G2YYVF3T/ref=cm_cr_pr_viewpnt#RMVA4G2YYVF3T, i completely agree with, a had the exact words to explain what i thought of this book. In the end it really was a great book. It really was a great book and im glad i got a chance to actually read it.

“Before I Die” by Jenny Downham
The Kentucky bluegrass award is an annual award for the best books, as chosen by students within the state of Kentucky. “Before I Die” is about a sixteen year old girl named Tessa who is terminally ill with leukemia, who after four years of treatment, decides to give it up so that she can appreciate the rest of her life. During the last few months of her life Tessa creates and carries out a list of things she has to do before she dies, including; sex, drugs and alcohol. In my opinion the book was amazing and should definitely win a Kentucky Book Award. I would also recommend it to all teenagers and most adults because it is inspirational and teaches you many crucial life lessons. Specifically, I found it interesting that Tessa thought it was necessary to accomplish so much before she died, I mean is she really going to remember everything she did on Earth while she is lying in a hole in the ground, I know it’s a little harsh, but think about it. But at the same time, experiencing those things, and experiencing love made the last few months of her life bearable, and allowed her to continue to get up everyday and not give up. The first review, posted at http://www.amazon.com/review/product/0385751559/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?%5Fencoding=UTF8&showViewpoints=1 , titled “Not an easy read, but well worth the time” and posted on October 8, 2007, was a very helpful review, and I agreed with it because I also found the book to be very emotionally hard to read at points, but at the same time fulfilling when Tessa actually was satisfied when Tessa could successfully mark something off her list. I also agree with the second review, titles “Touching” and posted on October 12, 2007, because touching describes this book to a tee. I really appreciated the genuine nature of the book along with the realistic consequences. This book is definitely one I will be recommending.
